Vizhinjam anti-port strike; Bishop Thomas J. Neto of the Latin Archdiocese is charged in two more cases

Thiruvananthapuram: Police have stepped up action against Vizhinjam anti-port protest committee. The Latin Archdiocese has charged Archbishop Thomas J. Neto with two more cases. The case includes trespassing into the port construction area in violation of the High Court order.

Bishop is the first accused in the two newly registered cases. Earlier, the bishop was also made the first accused in a conflict with a group of people in an area. This was followed by the Vizhinjam police station attack.

A case has been registered against Theodisias who made controversial remarks against Minister Abdur Rahman under the non-bailable section. The case is for breaking communal harmony and trying to create sectarianism. A case has also been registered against the Hindu Aikyavedi, which marched in violation of the police ban.

The strong action of the police is taking place when the High Court is considering the case regarding Vizhinjam port tomorrow. The government is on the stand that there should be no compromise against the protesters.

The court had earlier directed the police to report the steps taken so far. The police will submit a detailed report to the court tomorrow. The state government has not yet considered asking the Central Army for the security of the port.
