Health warns about trips to Rwanda due to the presence of Marbugo disease

The Ministry of Health issued a preventive notice to people who plan to make a trip to the African country of Rwanda.

And according to the federal agency, there is a high risk in that nation due to the presence of Marbugo disease, which is classified as having high severity and mortality since its fatality is between 24 and 88%.

As of October 10, the Rwandan Ministry of Health confirmed 58 cases and 13 deaths. This has brought the fatality rate to 22%.

Health recommends that if you go to Rwanda you avoid contact with people who present symptoms of the disease and contact with blood or other body fluids.

Likewise, the WHO mentions that there is a risk of international spread since cases have been confirmed in Kigali, the country’s capital, which has international exit points.

What is Marbugo disease?

According to the WHO this virus belongs to the Filoviridae family.

The disease is serious, often fatal, caused by the virus. This causes severe viral hemorrhagic fever in humans characterized by fever, headache, back pain, muscle pain, abdominal pain, vomiting, confusion, diarrhea and hemorrhage in very advanced stages.

Currently there is no effective antiviral treatment or vaccines.
