Documentation from the LA freeway: the wheel came loose from the van – and hit the car that was driving next to it
It is hard to believe that the injuries in the accident were only minor, as the Kia Soul flew several meters in the air, overturned and crashed on Ronald Reagan Road
Dashcam footage shows a terrifying crash on a Los Angeles freeway as a Kia Soul was thrown into the air and overturned after a wheel came loose from a passing pickup truck – hitting it.
The dramatic moment was captured through a Tesla car camera that was driving behind the two vehicles, last Thursday.
The white Chevy Silverado can be seen driving on the Ronald Reagan Expressway in the Chatsworth neighborhood, when a dark Kia Soul was driving a little behind it, in the left lane.
The Kia driver accelerated a little, and as soon as he was in front of the Chevy – the front left wheel of the van came loose and rolled into the left lane.
Immediately the wheel hit the Kia vehicle, which flipped a few tens of meters in the air and landed on its right side – then flipped back onto all fours. While the Kia was stopped, the wheel was pushed back and apparently hit the dividing fence – and rolled back.

At the same time, the white truck was dragged with only three wheels to the curb on the right, and it seems that it managed to stop.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, amazingly enough, no one was taken to the hospital.
Tesla driver Anup Khatra shared the footage from his dash cam, describing how the Autopilot software caused his car to swerve around the wheel that had detached from the van and rolled in his direction – which may have saved his life.
Katra said that the driver of the Kia was driving alone in the car, and he was not seriously injured and did not seek medical treatment.
