According to Rasmussen, the poll results show that Biden “is facing a tough battle for his re-election against one of the two leading Republican candidates”.
The national telephone and online survey found that 47% of potential voters will vote for Trump compared to 40% who will vote for Biden.
Another 11% said they would vote for another candidate. According to Mark Mitchell, head of the Rasmussen polling department, the numbers put Trump in his best position against Biden in 17 months, with the 45th president enjoying a 10 percent increase from a few weeks ago.
This “amazing turnaround” occurred at the height of news coverage surrounding the indictment and “arrest” of Trump, which clearly suggests that the spectacle is mobilizing the support of the American people for the former president.

When the same poll was conducted in February, Trump led Biden with 45% to Biden’s 42%.
Trump’s numbers have strengthened recently due to the addition of support from independent voters and women.
Trump leads Biden among women with approximately 47% over Biden’s approximately 39% and also beats him among independent voters with 44% against the Democratic president’s 36%.
The Republican governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, enjoys an even greater advantage over Biden (by one percentage point more than Trump) with a margin of 46%-38%.
However, if his fate does not change quickly, DeSantis is not expected to prevail over Trump in the Republican primaries.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll published earlier this week found that 48% of Republicans want Trump to be their party’s nominee, a four percent increase from last month – he has yet to be indicted.
By comparison, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis saw his support shrink from 30% to 19% – and Trump began to open a huge gap from DeSantis of 30 points.
All of Trump’s other potential opponents are polling in the single digits, including Nikki Haley and former Vice President Mike Pence.
