Düsseldorf The news last Thursday came as a complete surprise to Volkswagen boss Herbert Diess. The head of the supervisory board, Hans Dieter Pötsch, had asked for an interview at short notice for lunchtime, and what the VW boss heard was unthinkable for Diess up to that point. At least if you believe the descriptions from the automaker’s inner circle of power. Pötsch informed Diess that Thursday that the supervisory board no longer wanted to continue working with him.
For Herbert Diess, according to those around him, it was a shock. The manager had considered himself irreplaceable. Hadn’t he consistently trimmed VW for electromobility?
