jpnn.com - JAKARTA – Deputy Minister of Home affairs (Wamendagri) Bima Arya Sugiarto highlighted the repeat voting (PSU) determined by the General Election Commission (KPU) during the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada.
Bima also stated that he had not received any worrying reports regarding the implementation (PSU) of the 2024 regional elections.
“There have been no worrying reports. So far it’s still running smoothly,” said Bima in his statement, Sunday (7/12).
He revealed that a number of regions in Indonesia that implemented PSU did not show any worrying signs, both in terms of implementation and security.
According to him, the government, in this case the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), only facilitates all needs related to this agenda.
Bima further said that complete supervision lies with the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), so the government’s position is only to support everything that is needed.
“There is already a mechanism and Bawaslu is supervising it, so the Ministry of Home Affairs only facilitates security, there is Linmas, then the regions also supervise it, but of course the supervisory function lies with Bawaslu,” said the Mayor of bogor for the 2014-2019 and 2019-2024 periods.
The General Election Commission (KPU) previously said that as many as 496 polling stations (TPS) carried out re-voting (PSU) for the 2024 Pilkada.
This number is divided into 149 TPS that will carry out re-voting (PSU),242 TPS for follow-up voting (PSS),and 102 TPS that will carry out follow-up voting (PSL).
Indonesian KPU member Iffa Rosita said that the re-voting (PSU) would be held no later than Friday, December 6 2024.
“Hopefully there will be no additional PSUs considering that PSUs will be implemented no later than December 6,” said iffa, Wednesday (4/12). (Antara/jpnn)

Interview: Insights on the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections with Deputy Minister Bima Arya Sugiarto
Time.news Editor (TNE): Thank you for joining us today, Deputy Minister Bima Arya Sugiarto. We’re here to discuss the notable aspects of the 2024 regional elections in Indonesia, notably focusing on the repeat voting (PSU) process. To start, can you provide us with an overview of how the PSU is being implemented for these elections?
Bima Arya Sugiarto (BAS): Thank you for having me. The repeat voting (PSU) was resolute by the General Election Commission (KPU) in the context of the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada. Currently,I can confidently say that we have not received any troubling reports regarding its implementation. Everything is proceeding smoothly, and we’ve taken steps to ensure that regions conducting PSU are well-prepared.
TNE: That’s reassuring to hear! Could you elaborate on the regions where the PSU has been implemented and what the security measures entail?
BAS: Certainly. As reported, around 496 polling stations (TPS) are set to conduct re-voting (PSU). This includes 149 TPS for re-voting, 242 TPS for follow-up voting, and 102 TPS for additional follow-up voting. The security measures are robust, supported by the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), alongside local authorities. We have a community safety program, Linmas, in place, and our main role is to facilitate all needs surrounding this electoral agenda.
TNE: It sounds like a collaborative effort. What is the role of the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) in this process?
BAS: The supervisory function is critically critically important and lies with the Bawaslu. They are responsible for overseeing the election process thoroughly. Our ministry is primarily a facilitator of security and support. We ensure that Bawaslu has all the resources they need to monitor the elections effectively while local regions also contribute to maintaining oversight.
TNE: With 496 polling stations involved, what are the expected implications for voter turnout and engagement in the elections?
BAS: Ensuring voter turnout is always a priority, especially with repeat voting scenarios. A well-managed PSU can bolster public confidence in the electoral process, potentially encouraging greater voter participation. We hope that by maintaining openness and efficiency in the PSU, it will foster trust among the electorate in the legitimacy of the voting outcome.
TNE: Looking towards the future, what advice do you have for voters to engage effectively in the electoral process?
BAS: My primary advice for voters is to stay informed and participate actively. Understand the voting procedures, especially if you are in a region designated for PSU. It’s also crucial to engage with local authorities and electoral bodies if you have questions or concerns regarding the process. A transparent electoral process requires informed and proactive citizens.
TNE: Thank you, Deputy Minister Sugiarto, for your valuable insights today. It’s clear that the goverment is committed to ensuring a smooth and secure electoral process in the upcoming 2024 regional elections.
BAS: Thank you for having me, and I appreciate the opportunity to discuss these critical aspects of our democratic processes. Let’s hope for a successful and fair electoral season for Indonesia!
