In a statement to MAP, Mr. Gonçalves highlighted the growing support of many African, European, Arab and South American countries for the territorial integrity of Morocco, recalling the adoption by the Federal Senate of Brazil, to a large majority, of a motion of support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative, as a political, peaceful and consensual solution to this long-standing conflict.
The senator, who chairs the Brazil-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group, stressed that the support of many senators for this “historic and unprecedented” motion testifies to the importance of a peaceful solution for regional stability and the strengthening of cooperative ties between the two countries.
He reaffirmed that the Brazilian Senate, as one of the country’s major democratic institutions, fully supports the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco, qualifying this plan as a serious and credible solution, widely recognized by the international community, for put an end to a conflict that has lasted for several decades.
The senator also announced that preparations are underway for the holding of a Brazil-Morocco parliamentary forum in the first quarter of 2025 in Rabat, which will be an opportunity to further strengthen relations of friendship and cooperation and expand the strategic partnership between the two countries.
