Holstein Kiel finds a new defender. David Zec comes from the Slovenian champions and signs a long-term contract.
Holstein Kiel strengthened itself during the winter break with the Slovenian national player David Zec. The 24-year-old central defender has signed a long-term contract with the North Germans, the club announced. Kiel did not provide any details about the duration.
Sports managing director Carsten Wehlmann explained: “We are convinced that David will quickly take on responsibility thanks to his great experience and will help our team immediately.” Zec comes from Slovenian club NK Celje, where he has played since 2021 and most recently served as captain. At 1.90 meters, the defender not only brings physical presence, but also leadership qualities.
For Holstein Kiel, which is currently in a relegation zone, hope lies in its ability to stabilize the defense. With 38 goals conceded in 15 games, the promoted team has the weakest defense in the Bundesliga. Zec should help close this weak point and keep the class.
