BOLZANO. There are 34 volunteers who have recently successfully completed a training course with the Caritas Hospice Service. 8 men and 26 women from all over South Tyrol, ready to accompany seriously ill or dying people, as well as their family members.
The 121-hour training, organized and managed by the service coordinators, both in Merano and Bressanone, included 91 hours dedicated to theory and 30 to practical training. Since 2015, Caritas has offered this complete training course based on the internationally recognized Celler model: “Participants, dealing with the finiteness of life, refine skills in support, dialogue, communication and listening”, says Renate Rottensteiner, responsible for the Caritas Hospice Service, explaining the basic structure of the model. “This training is critical to providing our volunteers with the knowledge and empathy they need in their important work.”
The volunteers of the Caritas Hospice Service make a valuable contribution to society, accompanying people facing the last phase of their lives or their families with attention and human understanding. They make visits to the homes of those who suffer, in hospitals, in palliative care departments or in retirement homes, making themselves available with their time and presence: “It is a great honor to be able to be present for people in such an important phase of their life coming to an end”, explains one of the people who has just completed the training, hoping to be able to contribute soon.
