The above through a handwritten letter that he sent to the judge who tomorrow will decide his fate which, according to the EU Taxation should be to remain in prison for the rest of his life.
In the document, released by journalist Jesús García on his X account (@JesusGar), the former right-hand man of former President Felipe Calderón asks:

And to support his request, the “former super police officer” reels off a series of arguments such as that he has missed valuable moments with his family, with whom he has been respectful of the law and that, when he lived with her, they even prayed together.
Furthermore, he presumes that during his “inhumane” stay of almost 5 years in the Brooklyn Detention Centerin which he has witnessed episodes of extreme violence such as homicides and stabbings, which was segregated for almost a year “without having violated any rules”, in addition to his good behavior has led him to be part of a program for drug users and that motivates inmates to seek treatment during their sentence.
Which, according to García Luna’s text:
‼️Genaro García Luna asks the judge for clemency in a handwritten letter:
1. He states that it is “out of reality” that he could have links to drug trafficking, when he was subject to high security controls. Prosecutors accuse him of betraying that trust.

“It has allowed dozens of inmates linked to high-level crimes of violence, drug consumption and sale, and crimes with high impact on the community, to find a new path for their lives.”
Likewise, he reiterates the argument of his letter that he distributed on September 17, in which he accuses that the then president Andrés Manuel López Obrador would be dismantling the Judiciary with the recently approved reform.
At the same time, he also insists that “the allegations of his links with the Sinaloa Cartel, which led him to face the trial against him, are “out of reality”:
I just received a handwritten letter from Genaro Garcia Luna, sent by his lawyer.
Facing a life sentence for narco-corruption after his conviction last year in Brooklyn, he maintains his innocence and says he rejected a post-arrest deal that would have given him 6 months…

“It is impossible to have that level of responsibility -Secretary of State-, State information, and hemispheric regional security, subject to levels of control and surveillance of the highest level; and at the same time have contact or ties with criminals for profit; “They are totally inconceivable dimensions, outside of reality.”
Yesterday, the defense of former head of security Mexican asked Judge Cogan to allow his client to speak during the sentencing hearing, scheduled for this Wednesday October 16 at 4:30 p.m. local time.
In the letter sent by his defender, César de Castro to Judge Brian Coganrequests that García Luna dress in civilian clothes because:
“He is eager to address the Court and would like to do so – dressed – in a manner that reflects the seriousness of the occasion.”
If Judge Cogan allows it, it would be the first time during the entire process against him that the former right-hand man of former President Felipe Calderón would take the stand; On the day he was found guilty by the jury he did not do so and only looked at his wife, Linda Cristina Pereyra, from a distance, according to the journalistic reports of that day.
More than a year ago (February 21, 2023), a jury unanimously declared the former drug czar of Felipe Calderon Guilty of 5 charges related to drug trafficking:
- Heading a criminal enterprise (links to the Sinaloa Cartel)
- Conspiracy to distribute drugs (cocaine)
- Conspiracy to distribute and possess drugs (cocaine) for distribution in the United States
- Conspiracy to import drugs into the US (cocaine)
- Giving false testimony to the authorities when applying for nationality
