House of Representatives: Thematic workshop on equality and parity in education and training

This meeting, in which members of the thematic working group and representatives of ministerial departments and institutions concerned with the education and training sector took part, is part of a series of meetings organized by the group to shed light on the reality of equality and parity.

It is also a question of debating the priority areas for achieving equality, namely the family, the economic empowerment of women, human development, education and training, health and social protection, as well as political empowerment.

The chair of the thematic working group, Najwa Kokos, indicated that this meeting provides an opportunity to examine the most important achievements in education and training, ways to consolidate and develop them, as well as on the shortcomings noted in certain policies, procedures and measures taken in this area, with emphasis on creating a fair and equitable environment.

In this regard, Ms. Kokos considered it crucial to promote equality and parity between women and men in the various programs and policies linked to education and training, noting that this will help strengthen women’s access and girls to education, to improve their training and to remedy several imbalances in terms of equality between the two sexes in several areas and sectors.

The MP also noted that the issue of education and training has always been decisive for the empowerment of women, and a key axis for achieving equality objectives, changing gender stereotypes and promoting women’s rights. women in various fields, recalling the great interest given to this subject since the adoption of the 2011 Constitution.

The large-scale reforms initiated after the approval of the Constitution to promote the education and training system and ensure a favorable and sustainable environment for the achievement of quality modern education “are in line with the equity and equal opportunities as the main levers to enshrine the values ​​and culture of rights and gender equality,” she said.

In this context, she recalled that in recognition of the importance and place of the education and training system in the realization of Morocco’s societal project, Parliament approved framework law No. 51.17 relating to the system education, training and scientific research, stressing that this is an “important step in the establishment of a legislative and regulatory system based on gender equality and equal opportunities, while guaranteeing quality for all.

Despite the progress and significant achievements made by the Kingdom in the field of education and training and the promotion of the principle of gender equality, parity and non-discrimination, Ms. Kokos reported ” a number of imbalances” which hinder the empowerment of women in this area, in light of the growing challenges linked in particular to the effectiveness of legislative measures and the efficiency of the procedures followed in this area.

The workshop featured presentations from government departments and institutions focusing on the theme of equality and parity in their education and training programs, highlighting achievements and challenges, with a view to develop recommendations and practical proposals which will be included in the final report of the Group.
