The Houston Christian University (HCU) volleyball team continued its impressive run in the Southland Conference, securing a commanding 3-0 victory over McNeese State University on Thursday at Sharp Gym. This win marks the Huskies’ third consecutive conference victory, solidifying their position as a force to be reckoned with in the league.

Dominating Performance at Sharp Gym

The Huskies (8-8, 3-0 Southland) demonstrated a well-rounded performance, consistently holding the Cowgirls (5-10, 1-2 Southland) to under 22 points in each set. The final scores reflected HCU’s dominance: 25-19, 25-20, and 25-21.

The team established an early lead in the first set, capitalizing on key kills from Joya Euhus, Hannah Redrow, and Allana Archie. Peyton Fadal expertly orchestrated the offense, delivering an impressive 37 assists and contributing eight digs. A service ace from Kennedy Schramm sealed the first set, 25-19, in favor of HCU.

In the second set, Houston Christian maintained its control with consistent attacks from Euhus and Redrow. Solid defensive play, including 10 digs from Bianca Byerly, further bolstered the Huskies’ advantage. The team effectively capitalized on McNeese errors and showcased timely blocks, with Archie contributing two, to secure a 25-20 win.

Sustaining Momentum in the Final Set

The third set saw HCU sustain its momentum despite a late challenge from McNeese. Euhus and Redrow continued to lead the offensive charge, supported by kills from Garza and a decisive finishing kill from Taylor Bonner-Williams. Houston Christian closed out the match with a 25-21 victory, showcasing five blocks and limiting McNeese’s attack efficiency to a mere .150.

Key Players Lead the Charge

Several Huskies made significant contributions to the victory. Joya Euhus led the team with 13 kills, while Allana Archie added nine kills and three blocks. Peyton Fadal’s game-high 37 assists were instrumental in setting up the HCU offense.

“The team displayed a remarkable balance of offense and defense,” a team spokesperson noted. “Their ability to capitalize on opponents’ errors and execute timely blocks was crucial to their success.”
