– How can consumers protect themselves from deceptive pricing during seasonal sales?
Interviewer: Welcome to Time.news! Today, we’re diving into the exciting world of seasonal sales with an expert in consumer protection and market trends, Dr. Laura Mendoza. Dr. Mendoza, thanks for joining us today!
Dr. Mendoza: Thank you for having me! I’m excited to discuss the Good End 2024 and the tools available for consumers.
Interviewer: Let’s start with the basics. What exactly is the Good End, and what makes it significant for shoppers?
Dr. Mendoza: The Good End is an annual sales event that typically takes place in mid-November in Mexico. It’s comparable to Black Friday in the U.S. This event offers significant discounts across various product categories, making it a pivotal time for consumers looking to make big purchases.
Interviewer: That sounds fantastic! I’ve heard that the Federal Consumer Protection Agency, better known as Profeco, has introduced a new tool called “Who is Who in Prices for the Good End.” Can you explain how this tool works?
Dr. Mendoza: Absolutely! Profeco’s tool is designed to empower consumers by enabling them to compare prices on 492 products across different categories—from electronics like cameras and sound equipment to household appliances and more. This way, shoppers can identify real discounts and avoid being misled by inflated “sale” prices.
Interviewer: That’s great, especially in a time when consumers may feel overwhelmed by promotions. How can shoppers utilize this tool effectively?
Dr. Mendoza: It’s quite straightforward! Consumers need to visit the Profeco website, select the “Who is Who in Prices for the Good End” option, and then choose their location—whether it’s their city, municipality, or specific store. This will present them with current prices for various products, helping them make informed purchasing decisions.
Interviewer: It sounds user-friendly! Besides assisting with price comparisons, what other benefits does using this tool bring to shoppers?
Dr. Mendoza: One major benefit is transparency. By giving consumers access to price data, it promotes fair competition among retailers. Moreover, it helps build consumer confidence, allowing them to shop more strategically. Ultimately, it encourages a healthier marketplace by discouraging dishonest pricing practices.
Interviewer: That’s an excellent point! Given that the Good End runs from November 15 to 18, what tips do you have for consumers making their shopping lists?
Dr. Mendoza: First, I recommend creating a list of items you genuinely need or want, rather than buying on impulse. Second, use the Profeco tool to check prices before the sales event to establish a baseline and identify genuine discounts. Lastly, factor in additional costs like shipping for online purchases to ensure that the total expenditure remains within budget.
Interviewer: Those are fantastic tips! Before we wrap up, Dr. Mendoza, how important do you think tools like this are for consumer protection in today’s digital shopping environment?
Dr. Mendoza: They’re incredibly important. As more consumers shop online, the risk of deceptive practices increases. Tools like the one provided by Profeco not only safeguard consumers but also promote equity in the market. It’s about creating a shopping culture where consumers feel informed, empowered, and less likely to fall prey to scams.
Interviewer: Thank you, Dr. Mendoza, for your insights! It’s clear that the Good End 2024 and Profeco’s initiatives offer consumers a wonderful opportunity to shop wisely this season.
Dr. Mendoza: Thank you! It was a pleasure discussing this important topic with you. Happy shopping, everyone!
