If you are unavailable on Sunday 10 and 24 April but wish to cast your vote in the presidential election, you can submit a proxy request on the maprocuration.gouv.fr website. There is no deadline for filing a power of attorney, but be careful, you must bear in mind the time taken to take your request into account.

“In the event of a late request, given the delivery times and the consideration by the town hall of your proxy, it is possible that your proxy may not be able to vote in your place”, recalls the Ministry of the Interior. A late proxy request before the first round may not be taken into account on April 10 but be valid for the second round on April 24.

This possible failure to take late power of attorney requests into account in time is the only difficulty pointed out by the Association of French Mayors (AMF), on Friday April 8, to the World, concerning the smooth running of the first round. The AMF thus fears that appeals will increase for lack of a deadline for filing a proxy.

Is it mandatory to take two ballots before going to the voting booth?

The principle of secret ballot voting is law in France. If the electoral code does not mention the obligation for the voter to take several ballot papers before entering the voting booth, this is a practice and a request made by many presidents of vote place.

Still, in a judgment of 1993, the Constitutional Council specifies that the use is in no way obligatory. “No provision of the electoral code obliges voters to take several ballots; that, consequently, the alleged circumstance does not constitute an irregularity likely to vitiate the results of the ballot. »

As a reminder, you also have the right not to take any ballots on the spot but to go to the polling station and to the voting booth with one of the regulatory ballots received with the professions of faith of the candidates by mail before the election.
