jpnn.comJAKARTA – Huawei has independently developed ultrasonic fingerprint sensor technology.

Strengthening this research, Huawei has just registered a patent for this technology.

The development of the technology is important now when the smartphone industry still relies on fingerprint sensor solutions from Goodix, which are limited by Qualcomm patents.

The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is actually nothing new, because it was introduced by Samsung with its flagship cellphone, the Galaxy S10, in 2019.

Since then, Samsung has certainly used this technology on its high-end cellphones, especially the S series and encouraged other manufacturers to follow in similar footsteps.

As for Huawei’s patented sensor, this is good news, because it provides another option for the industry.

The patent entitled “Ultrasonic fingerprint recognition module, system and electronic device” is known to be registered with number CN117058725A, and is described as having a sensor design that promises to increase the accuracy of fingerprint identification.

The patent specifications cover technical details of the sensor construction, including a common electrode stack, a piezoelectric layer, and a series of pixel electrode units.
