Oscar has gained intensity in the last few hours, becoming a hurricane category 1 as it continues to approach the eastern Cuba.
Faced with this situation, the Castro authorities issued an alert and established the Information Phase for the provinces from Guantánamo to Camagüey.
In that sense, it was known that Hurricane Oscar maintains maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour, with higher gusts, and remains in category 1 of the Saffir-Simpson scale.
Likewise, the hurricane center estimated that the system is located at 21.0 degrees North latitude and 73.2 degrees West longitude, a position that places it over the island of Great Inagua in the eastern Bahamas, 130 kilometers northeast of Punta de Maisí, easternmost point of Cuba and 240 kilometers east of Punta Lucrecia, Holguín. This according to the report issued the morning of this Sunday, October 20.
““In the next 12 hours this hurricane will continue on a course between the west and west-southwest, possibly gaining a little more intensity,” adds a note from the Castro press.

Likewise, Hurricane Oscar is expected to pass this Sunday over the seas north of the eastern region of Cuba, near the northern coast of the provinces of Guantánamo and Holguín, “when it will begin to gradually reduce its speed.”
It is expected that during the morning of this Sunday the weather conditions in the east of the island will begin to deteriorate with showers, rains and thunderstorms that could be strong and intense.
Meanwhile, according to the parameters established by the hurricane center, Hurricane Oscar is expected to make landfall in Cuba during the afternoon of this Sunday along the northern coast of the provinces of Guantánamo and Holguín.
