After a harsh insult directed at Chancellor Scholz, the Green Bundestag member Piechotta apologizes for the second time. Your choice of words is reminiscent of a well-known Green.

The Green Bundestag member Paula Piechotta has apologized again after a harsh insult to Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). “I apologize for the choice of words and the use of the term asshole. This does not meet the requirements of a fair election campaign,” the budget expert wrote on X.

Piechotta had already apologized the evening before for a statement she made in the “Ostgrün” podcast, which she recorded with her party colleague and Leipzig local politician Martin Meißner. In an episode published on December 23rd, she complained that Scholz was isolated in European politics and then said in this context: “I would say that the SPD has known Olaf Scholz for a very long time. Everyone in the SPD knows that Olaf Scholz is an asshole. ”

The video for the podcast was made private on the YouTube platform in the evening, but corresponding excerpts can still be found on the X platform. A new version has now been published without the controversial statement.

Several SPD politicians reacted indignantly to the podcast. The SPD general secretary Matthias Miersch told “t-online”: “Ms. Piechotta’s statements against Chancellor Olaf Scholz are not only disrespectful, but a blatant violation of the fairness agreement that has just been concluded.” The election campaign thrives on tough arguments on the matter, but personal attacks have no place in it. “It is remarkable that a Green MP, whose candidate for chancellor Robert Habeck is taking legal action against insults such as ‘imbecile’, is now making personal attacks against the Chancellor.”

The insult brings back memories of Green Party politician Joschka Fischer. In 1984, he hurled at the then parliamentary vice-president Richard Stücklen (CSU) in the Bundestag: “With respect, Mr. President, you are an asshole.”
