Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said, I do not think BNP is a democratic party in Bangladesh. Because their history is killing democracy. There is no precedent for establishing democracy. They have killed democracy, turned it into a farce and never obeyed democratic rules within the party.

He said, when the leaders of the party who talk big today held the party council and where did they have the council? 7/8 years ago they had a central committee meeting at La Méridien. Jambujet Marka Committee of 501 people. Therefore, we do not expect those who do not have democracy within their own party to establish democracy in the country.

He said this while paying tributes to national leader Sher Bangla AK Fazlul Haque on the occasion of his 62nd death anniversary at the shrine of the three leaders in Dhaka University on Saturday. Earlier, Bangladesh Awami League and various allied organizations paid tribute to AK Fazlul Haque.

Tributes were first paid on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and later by Bangladesh Awami League. Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader led the senior leaders of the party were present at that time.

Later, Road Transport and Bridges Minister highlighted the contribution of Sher Bengal AK Fazlul Haque to the welfare of the common people of Bengal. He said, Sher Bangla AK Fazlul Haque was apparently a perfect Bengali. One of the national leaders who have taken politics forward among the common people in this country is Sher Bangla AK Fazlul Haque. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the best Bengali father of the nation, inspired the common man with the mantra of freedom in this country. The farmers of rural Bengal can never forget Shere Bangla. He will forever be remembered by them for protecting the peasantry of Bengal from the oppression and tyranny of the moneylenders by establishing the Tenancy Act and the Debt Arbitration Board. That is why he is still remembered.

Obaidul Quader said, the commitment we have today is the dream of Bangabandhu, Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy, Maulana Bhasani, Sher Bangla AK Fazlul Haque to form a non-communal Bangladesh. Today we are fighting under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina to build a non-communal, humane Bangladesh. That is the dream of Shere Bengal and our promise.

At that time, in response to a question from the journalists, the general secretary of Awami League and the minister of road transport and bridges said that the issue of slavery, this issue is with BNP. They are slaves to get power. They do not consider public support as key. They think that by enslaving foreign masters, one can preserve power, one can go to power. Still their dilemma is how to get to power through slavery.

Later, various affiliated organizations of Awami League including Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League, Jubo League, Volunteer League, Bangladesh Tanti League, Dhaka University Chhatra League paid tribute to Fazlul Haque, the leader of the land and people of Bengal, Sher Bangla.
