A volcano erupted Wednesday-Thursday night ‍on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwest Iceland, in the seventh eruption the country has seen since last‌ December, according to what meteorology ​announced.

The Icelandic ‍Meteorological Office said in a statement⁣ that “a volcanic eruption began ⁢in Sondnokágígár, near Stora Scovil, at 23:14 GMT” on⁤ Wednesday.
This is the seventh volcanic eruption that the country has seen within one year.
Live television‍ images showed lava ​flowing along a horizontal⁣ fissure.
In response to a question on public radio Ras2, Benedikt Ovegsson, an expert at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, said that the eruption does not pose a threat⁣ to any infrastructure at the moment.
