Idukki: A red alert has been announced at Idukki Dam as the water level has risen. The water level in the dam reached 2382.53 feet after the water from Mullaperiyar also reached. Dam shutters may be opened in case of red alert. Periyar issued a warning to those on the banks. Meanwhile, Minister Roshi Augustine told News18 that it is hoped that the Idukki Dam will not have to be opened soon. But the water level is higher than the previous year. Roshi Augustine said that the water level in Periyar is not a concern.

Meanwhile, orange alert has been declared in Banasura Sagar, Wayanad. The orange alert was announced when the water level reached 773 meters. Today’s upper rule level is 774 meters. A blue alert was announced at the dam yesterday.

The water level in Mullaperiyar dam reached 138 feet. The shutters of the dam were opened yesterday as the water level crossed the rule curve limit. 2219 cubic feet of water per second flows into Periyar. Tamil Nadu is transporting 2166 cubic feet of water. There is also a possibility that more water will be released in the background of not reducing the flow of water to the dam.

The search for the missing tribal boy who got caught in the flood in Peerumet, Idukki will continue today. A 12-year-old boy named Ajith, a native of Peerumedu Grampi, went missing in the river yesterday. Ajith was crossing the river to collect kudampuli from the forest when he was swept away. Father and mother were with him. The NDRF team, Fire Force and Peerumedu Police conducted a joint search.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Center has predicted that the rainfall will reduce in the state from today. Yellow alert has been announced in four districts today. Isolated heavy rain is likely over Idukki, Kozhikode and Kannur Kasaragod districts. Western Ghats of Kerala-Tamil Nadu will continue to rain today. Therefore, it is advised to continue vigilance in dams and hilly areas. The Meteorological Center has predicted that a new depression will form in the Bay of Bengal tomorrow.
