Hanover/Dortmund immersive art is in vogue: the focus is often on a popular artist such as Claude Monet or Salvator Dalí, whose work is projected onto the walls as a play of colors in huge exhibition halls. In the elaborately staged music shows, the artists’ biographies are sometimes told on film. Visitors to so-called immersive exhibitions should become part of the production and completely immerse themselves in the intoxication of the images. Is this entertainment or a new approach to art? Do the shows organized by private organizers compete with conventional museums or can more people be inspired by culture in this way?
