Immunotherapy for brain cancer. Will you help?

English version below

Dear All,

My name is Reuben. I am 33 years old and I live with my wife Fleur in Utrecht. In 2020 we got married. April 2, 2021 changed our lives in one fell swoop. After a period of vague complaints and extreme headaches (which were attributed to stress) a brain tumor was discovered in me. A glioma (astrocytoma with IDH mutation) grade IV. A malignant brain tumor that cannot be completely removed. Suddenly I was terminally ill, with a maximum lifespan of 5 years.

Now, after surgery, 33 radiation treatments and 13 months of chemo, I have finished treatment in the hospital and I only get MRI scans for control. The scans look good so far. The residual tumor is stable and even smaller. But, I want to move on. Continue with additional treatments. Because I believe in the power of my own body. My own body can fight this tumor. That is why after my first admission (April-May 2021) I immediately started various measures to strengthen my immune system and limit tumor growth as much as possible, such as the ketogenic diet (no sugar and very few carbohydrates), additional immune-enhancing supplements, more exercise, a lot of nature, cold-hot showers and so on.

I also went into treatment with a naturopath (Dr. de Klyn in Ellecom). He helps me to further strengthen my body and immune system in order to further reduce the tumor. He also referred me to Innovita Life. A clinic in Ireland and Lithuania that offers immunotherapy for every type of cancer. This specifically concerns a so-called dendritic cell therapy*. With this therapy, vaccines are made from my body’s own immune cells (in my case dendritic cells and natural killer cells**). With the administration of the vaccines, my own immune cells will be stimulated to clear up the cancer cells. These vaccines are designed specifically for the individual and tumor type and can therefore be very effective.

Unfortunately, there is no immunotherapy for brain cancer available in the Netherlands. That is why I want to be treated by Dr. de Klyn and Dr. Adas Darinskas with his team at Innovita Life. This treatment is very expensive and is not reimbursed. However, I believe this can work for me, so I hope you will help me by making a financial contribution.

Maybe Fleur and I can then look further ahead to a bright and long future together.

Thank you in advance.

Love, Reuben

* Dendritic cell therapy is a form of immunotherapy, in which the immune cells of the body are stimulated to make antibodies against certain (cancer) cells with the aim of eliminating them. The therapy thus resembles the principle of vaccination with the difference that the activation of the dendritic cells takes place outside the body. After taking blood, the cells are cultured and ‘trained’ outside the body. Then they are brought back into the body to carry out their task.

** Natural killer cells (NK cells) are so called because they have a natural defense activity in our body against cancer cells, but also against cells infected with viruses. They collaborate with others

immune cells (other white blood cells) to keep our body free of viruses and cancer cells.
