Import Data for Durable Goods in February 2024: A Detailed Analysis by the Tax Authority’s Planning and Economy Division

The Planning and Economy Division of the Tax Authority published the import data for durable goods in February 2024, from which it appears that imports totaled 15,998 private vehicles compared to 30,304 private vehicles in February 2023 – a decrease of 47.2%.

Imports of commercial vehicles amounted to 867 vehicles compared to 1,177 in February 2023, a decrease of 26.3%. The Tax Authority stated that the low imports in February 2024 are due to the advance of the import of vehicles in December 2023, on the eve of the increase in the purchase tax on electric vehicles in January 2024. It should be noted that also in December 2022, the import of vehicles was brought forward on the eve of the increase in the purchase tax on electric vehicles and the update of the green taxation formula, but the imports in February 2023 was significantly higher than a normal average month.

In the period January – February 2023, the import of vehicles amounted to 34,401 vehicles compared to 46,944 vehicles in the corresponding period last year – a decrease of 26.7%. The trend data indicates a moderate decrease in the import of passenger vehicles starting in April 2023.

The total value of all imports in February 2024 amounted to 7.4 billion dollars – almost unchanged compared to the value of imports in February 2023. The Tax Authority stated that trend data indicate a moderate decrease in the value of imports.
