In Élancourt, the announcement of the reduction of 2,500 jobs at Airbus “creates a very disturbing climate”

by time news

This is the great uncertainty. Since October 16 and Airbus‘ announcement of the elimination of 2,500 jobs, the employees of the European aeronautical manufacturer have been waiting. On the Élancourt (Yvelines) site, which brings together 2,000 employees, no one knows what to expect. Not to mention that it brings back bad memories of the beginning of 2020 and the previous wave of massive layoffs.

“This announcement is not well received internally because it creates a very anxious climate, everyone wonders what will happen”, reacts Jean-Damien Bloquet, deputy coordinator of the FO Airbus Group, attached to the Yvelin site. There is great concern among everyone. » Like all employees, the trade unionist expects a lot from the next management committee, scheduled for December 4th.

No layoffs but reclassifications, according to the state

Meanwhile, last Wednesday, during the back and forth in the National Assembly, the new government gave a sign of hope. The Minister of Industry, Marc Ferracci, did not hesitate to declare that “there will be no layoffs as all the employees who are intended to be reclassified will be in other Airbus entities”, adding at the same time that “the 2,500 jobs under threat are everywhere in Europe and not just in France”. Despite everything, his position is welcomed with caution by the main interested parties.

“It’s a good thing because it’s also our goal, but it shouldn’t just be an advertisement,” says Jean-Damien Bloquet, well aware of the reality of the situation. “It is complex because it is true that we are in a period of transition between the space conquest generated by General de Gaulle and the need for international connectivity which tends towards a constellation model, such as Starlink in the United States and its proliferation of private investors, on that we have fallen a little behind”, adds the deputy coordinator of the majority union who intends to “ensure that the social strategy that will be developed also goes in the direction of the workers”.

Today negotiations are still ongoing.
