In numbers: the final damage of the Israeli war on Lebanon

The National Council for Scientific Research in Lebanon, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme, revealed “the extent of the damage resulting from the Israeli aggression against Lebanon between October 2023 and November 2024.”

The report revealed that “3,961 people were martyred and 16,520 others were injured, in addition to the displacement of more than 1.2 million citizens, most of them from the regions of the south, the Bekaa, and the southern suburbs.”

He stated that “the Israeli forces adopted a scorched earth policy, which led to the destruction of more than 130,000 hectares of agricultural land, and the burning of 1,200 hectares of scrub and forests, causing widespread environmental genocide.”

He added: “With reference to the systematic destruction of infrastructure, as the raids targeted hospitals, schools, bridges, and vital supply routes, which led to the disruption of basic services.”

The report also emphasized “the targeting of journalists and humanitarian workers, with direct attacks recorded that claimed the lives of a number of them,” explaining that “the aggression also affected archaeological sites and places of worship, with the destruction of many churches, mosques, and historical shrines.”

According to the National News Agency, the report indicated that “these violations represent a clear violation of international humanitarian law, stressing the necessity of adopting this document as an official reference by the Lebanese state to document Israeli crimes and work on comprehensive response and recovery plans.”
