Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi sent a message to the member states of the Arab League, in response to their statement on developments in Syria.

Araqchi said in the letter: “We, like you, also want to achieve stability and calm and prevent chaos and unrest in Syria, for completely clear reasons, to preserve the unity and integrity of the Syrian territory, and to ensure the security of all ethnic and sectarian components, including Sunnis, Shiites, Alawites and Kurds, and to preserve The security and sanctity of holy places and shrines, to limit the possession of illegal weapons, to reject any kind of foreign intervention under any pretext, and to avoid Syria becoming a haven. To terrorism, extremism and violence, to ensure that Syria does not pose a threat to its neighbors and to the entire region, to prevent further adventures and the pursuit of dangerous expansionist policies by Israel and force it to withdraw from the occupied territories, and finally, to form a comprehensive government in Syria.”

He added: “But at the same time, we are concerned about stirring up strife and creating pretexts with the aim of diverting the attention of regional and international public opinion towards unrealistic threats.”

He stressed in the letter that “the goals of the seditionists are to legitimize the continued occupation of parts of Syrian territory, especially by Israel and the United States, and to justify foreign interference in the internal affairs of Syria, and to deprive some segments of the Syrian people of participating in determining their fate, and finally, those seeking To achieve their desires and goals by blaming the outside world for this country’s problems.”

Araqchi considered that “overcoming the current stage of boiling in the region requires rationality, participation, cooperation, and avoiding provoking differences and temporary interests.”

According to the “IRNA” agency, Araqchi stressed, “The Islamic Republic of Iran shares the vision of other countries in the region to achieve a safe and peaceful transition leading to the crystallization of a comprehensive government in Syria with the participation of all ethnic and sectarian movements and components, and it is fully prepared to contribute to achieving these goals.”

In a statement, the Arab League expressed its rejection of the recent Iranian statements, which it described as “aimed at fueling strife among the Syrian people.”

The League of Arab States stressed “the need for all parties to respect Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and stability, restrict weapons to the state, dissolve any armed formations, and reject destabilizing external interventions.”

The spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ismail Baghaei, expressed his country’s “concern about the recent events in Syria, including the popular protests that erupted against the backdrop of what he described as “violation of the sanctity of one of the holy places.”

In statements reported by Tasnim Agency, Baghaei denied the accusations made by some media parties regarding Iran’s interference in Syrian affairs, considering them “baseless allegations,” stressing Iran’s support for Syria’s national and regional unity, stressing the necessity of forming a comprehensive political system that guarantees Participation of all political and national components in the country.”

Baqaei added, “His country rejects any escalation of violence or insecurity in Syria, calling for ensuring the security of Syrian citizens and protecting the rights of minorities and religious sites.”
