AGI In Sardinia last year almost 12 thousand jobs occupied by under 35s disappeared, a decrease of 9.1% compared to 2019, much higher than the -5.1% recorded at the national level. The island is in third last place in Italy for the recruitment of young people, according to the Research Department of Confartigianato Imprese Sardegna, which analyzed the regional dynamics of employees under 35 between 2019 and 2020, on Istat, Unioncamere and Anpal data.
The annualized balance, i.e. the difference between hiring and termination flows over twelve months, turned negative in February 2020 and worsened due to the crisis caused by Covid-19, until reaching the minimum in June 2020. In the second half of the year the situation improved, notes the artisan organization, but last December the balance was still heavily negative.
In age group 15-34, with 108,000 employees, equal to 19.8% of total workers, Sardinia is 7 points below the national average: young people who work are just 22.9 against 29.8% in the rest of Italy. The ranking is led by Bolzano with 50.5% of young people employed and closed by Sicily with 17.6%.
Young apprentices grow up
In 2020 there was an increase in the hiring of young people through the apprenticeship contract, an instrument that in Sardinia recorded +179 positions compared to the previous year.
