/ The Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadel, and energy officials in Turkmenistan discussed, on Tuesday, the final arrangements for supplying gas to Iraq.
The minister’s media office stated in a statement received by Agency that the Iraqi delegation, headed by the Minister of Electricity, held a meeting with energy officials in Turkmenistan, headed by the Minister of State for Gas Affairs, Maksat Babayev, in the capital, Ashgabat, in the first visit of an Iraqi government official to Turkmenistan.
The meeting focused on discussing the details and final arrangements for the agreement to supply Turkmen gas to Iraq.
Fadel stressed the Iraqi government’s keenness to strengthen economic cooperation with Turkmenistan in various fields, expressing his optimism about signing a gas supply agreement soon.
He pointed out the importance of the agreement in securing the necessary fuel sources and their diversity, and maintaining the sustainability of electricity generation in Iraq.
According to the statement, according to the draft agreement between the two countries, Turkmen gas will be supplied to Iraq through the Iranian pipeline network linked to the Iraqi pipeline network, reaching the electrical stations spread across central and southern Iraq.
