In the Vitebsk region, 19 people were detained for poaching, illegal trafficking in firearms and ammunition, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
The operatives captured the suspects with the support of the Almaz special counter-terrorism unit.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the defendants were engaged in illegal hunting using a helicopter in the Vitebsk region, during which they caught a red-listed brown bear. During searches at the place of residence of the detainees, material evidence, firearms, ammunition, special devices, and vehicles used in criminal activities were confiscated.
Investigators have opened a criminal case for illegal hunting using an air vehicle, which resulted in causing damage on an especially large scale. Further operational and investigative actions are being carried out against the defendants. Their involvement in committing other crimes is being verified.
