France’s new foreign minister, Catherine Colonna, said today (Tuesday) that there will be only a few weeks until the window of opportunity to revive Iran’s nuclear deal closes. The foreign minister further claimed that the situation is not sustainable and Iran is using delaying tactics and returning to previous positions, despite things previously agreed.
“There is still a window of opportunity but Iran must decide whether to accept the agreement, time passes and Tehran must understand this,” the French foreign minister said. The window of opportunity will close in a few weeks. There will be no better agreement than the one on the table. “
Last week, the U.S. envoy to the talks said Iran had added unrelated demands to discussions on its nuclear program during recent talks, and that it had made alarming progress in uranium enrichment.
The French foreign minister’s announcement also comes after Iranian counterpart Hussein Amirbadulian recently claimed that talks with the US on a return to the nuclear deal are expected to resume soon.
