Interview Between Time.news editor and Syria Expert⁤ Dr. Amina Al-Hakim

Time.news Editor: Welcome, dr. Al-Hakim! Thank‍ you‍ for joining us today to discuss the recent developments from the Arab Ministerial Liaison Committee’s meeting on Syria ‍in Aqaba. The final statement emphasized the respect for the ⁢Syrian people’s choices and the importance of a peaceful political transition. What were your immediate ‌thoughts upon reading the statement?

Dr. Amina Al-Hakim: Thank you for having me. I believe the statement marks a pivotal moment for both the Arab world and the Syrian people. It reaffirms the commitment by key Arab states not only to stand ⁣by the Syrian people during this sensitive phase‍ but‌ also to actively ⁣support a peaceful and inclusive ‌political process. It shows a degree of unity among Arab states, which has been somewhat fragmented in recent years.

Time.news Editor: Unity‍ is crucial, indeed. The final statement called for a transition process that includes all Syrian social and political forces, ‌including ‌women and youth. How notable is this inclusivity in the context of Syria’s ongoing ‍crisis?

Dr. Amina al-Hakim: It’s immensely significant. Historically, Syria’s political landscape has excluded ‌many voices, notably those of⁣ women and youth. by explicitly mentioning their inclusion, the statement ⁤acknowledges that for any political transition to be legitimate and successful, it needs to reflect the ‍diverse fabric of Syrian society. This inclusivity‍ can foster broader acceptance of the political process and promote stability.

Time.news‍ Editor: The statement also mentioned the role of the United⁢ Nations and⁢ the need for support from the UN envoy to ‍Syria. What do ‌you think is⁢ necessary for the UN to effectively facilitate this ‌transition?

Dr. Amina Al-Hakim: the UN must ⁣be proactive in it’s approach.⁢ This means not only providing ‌technical and logistical support but also ensuring that it has ⁢the necessary resources to mediate and facilitate discussions. A⁢ well-staffed UN mission, equipped with educated personnel who understand the ‍complexities of Syrian society, could play a critical role in bridging divides and fostering dialogue among the different factions.

Time.news Editor: There’s an emphasis on implementing UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254. Can you elaborate on the significance of this resolution?

Dr.Amina Al-hakim: Certainly! Resolution 2254 outlines the roadmap for a ⁣political solution to the syrian conflict, including calls for a ceasefire, political ⁤dialogue, and the establishment of a‍ transitional governance system. Its significance lies in its extensive framework, which ⁢seeks to address the root causes of the conflict and lays down mechanisms for conducting free and fair ⁣elections. adhering to this resolution gives legitimacy to the process and is crucial for garnering international support.

Time.news Editor: The call for national dialogue among all components of Syrian society is also ⁤a critical point. How can such dialogue be fostered in⁢ a ‌society still grappling with the impacts ‍of a prolonged conflict?

Dr. Amina Al-Hakim: ‌ Dialogue⁢ is ⁢vital for healing and rebuilding trust among communities. It requires⁣ establishing platforms where all ‍voices can be heard, perhaps through civil society initiatives or local councils.Facilitated workshops ‍that focus on reconciliation and shared goals could also⁢ help. Moreover, it’s essential that these dialogues be perceived as genuinely inclusive and not merely symbolic. ‌Trust cannot be built overnight; it requires sustained efforts and a commitment ⁢to addressing grievances.

Time.news Editor: with the many challenges ahead, how optimistic ⁤are you about the prospects for ‌Syria’s future?

Dr. Amina ⁤Al-Hakim: While the challenges are indeed daunting,I am cautiously optimistic. The statement from the Arab Ministerial Committee suggests a recognition of the complexities and the need for a collaborative approach. The commitment to a peaceful transition, the emphasis on inclusivity, and the support⁢ from both regional and international players can pave ‍the way for a more ⁢stable and prosperous Syria. The ‍key will be maintaining momentum and ⁤ensuring that the Syrian people remain at the heart of the process.

Time.news Editor: Thank you, Dr. Al-Hakim, for ⁢sharing your insights with us. It’s evident that while the road ahead is complex, the collective commitment towards a peaceful resolution is critical for healing ‍and rebuilding Syria.

Dr. Amina Al-Hakim: Thank you for having me. It’s an important conversation, and I appreciate the ⁤platform to discuss these vital issues.
