Indications are that Virat Kohli is upset with his removal from the captaincy of the India ODI team. Kohli did not attend the team’s first training session ahead of the South Africa tour. This was officially confirmed by the BCCI.

It is not clear why Virat Kohli will miss the training session. Inside Sport quoted a BCCI official as saying that Kohli had announced that he would not be attending the training session.

‘Virat had informed us that he would not be attending the training session. He has not yet joined the camp. Virat has informed that he will be a part of the camp the next day. The team will leave for Johannesburg after spending three days in a bio-bubble, the BCCI official said.

Currently, all the Indian players selected for the South African tour have arrived in Mumbai. Everyone except Kohli has arrived. After one day of training, the team will stay in the quarantine for three days. The Indian team will then return to South Africa on the 16th. India’s tour of South Africa will consist of three Tests and one ODI.

Virat Kohli | ‘Kohli’s phone switched off’; The former coach of the player who stormed against the BCCI

Rajkumar Sharma, Virat Kohli’s childhood coach, has hit out at the Indian Cricket Board over the captaincy controversy. The coach, who was surprised at the way India handled the captaincy of the ODI team, slammed the national selectors and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.

He said that when Kohli announced his resignation as T20 captain, he could have been asked to step down as ODI captain or retain Kohli as captain in both formats.

‘I have not been able to talk to Kohli yet. His phone is switched off and the reason is unknown. In my opinion, as soon as Kohli resigned as T20 captain, the selectors should have asked him to step down as ODI captain as well. Otherwise, we should have asked him not to resign, “Sharma said in an interview with Khel Justice Podcast.
