IND vs SA | Omicron Fear; India’s tour of South Africa may be delayed by a week

by time news
India’s tour of South Africa is reportedly set to begin a week late. The future of the tour scheduled for December was uncertain as reports of a new variant of the Kovid, Omicron, were reported in countries including South Africa. However, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has said that the tour will not be canceled and will continue. This was followed by the news that the tour might start a week late from its scheduled date.

The Indian cricket team’s tour of South Africa was scheduled to begin on December 17. The Indian team was scheduled to fly to South Africa on December 8. The series, which lasted until the end of January, consisted of three Tests, three ODIs and four T20I matches. As these Test matches are part of the World Test Championship, all three Tests will be crucial in India’s progress in the tournament.

The BCCI has not yet decided whether to recall India’s A team, which is currently touring South Africa. The decision to return to South Africa, scheduled for the 8th of this month, was delayed.

The disease is most prevalent in the northern regions of South Africa. Johannesburg and Pretoria, which will host two Tests against India, are in the region. It is learned that the BCCI has decided to delay the series considering these circumstances.

The delay in announcing the Indian squad for the tour of South Africa also indicates that the series will start late. Earlier, it was announced that India would announce their squad for the tour of South Africa after the first Test against New Zealand. In the new situation, the team will be announced after the BCCI holds talks with Cricket South Africa.

It is reported that there may be another lockdown in the country where the new variant has been discovered. South African scientists confirmed last Thursday the discovery of a new variant of the corona virus, which has been genetically modified several times. South Africa has recently seen a sharp increase in the number of covid cases. Since early November, the number of Kovid cases has increased tenfold.
