Indian pacer Mohammad Shami has been sidelined for almost nine months due to an ankle injury. However, there is hope that he could return to action for the Test series against Bangladesh.
The Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) is optimistic that Shami will be ready for the series, which begins on September 19th. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.
Shami has been gradually increasing his bowling workload since undergoing successful ankle surgery last month. His progress is encouraging, suggesting that the Indian selectors have reason to be hopeful.
The selectors plan to include Shami in at least one match of the upcoming Dilip Trophy, which starts on September 5th. This will provide valuable insight into his fitness ahead of the Bangladesh series.
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar commented, “Shami started bowling. This is a very good point. September 19th is the first Test and that was always the target.”
Shami suffered the injury during the ODI World Cup in November last year and played the final with the injury. He underwent surgery in February and missed the entire IPL season.
