Intriguingly, investigations suggest that the recent wave of shootings in the Stockholm area can be traced back to this ongoing battle for power in Sundsvall’s drug market.
Notably, one of the defendants is a principal figure in Sundsvall who enjoyed the backing of high-ranking members within the Foxtrot network. Astonishingly, four individuals among the indicted are under the age of 18, emphasizing the increasingly ruthless tactics employed by criminals in exploiting young people.
Commenting on the situation, Sundsvall’s Police area chief, Josef Wiklund, expressed his profound concern regarding this callous turn of events. He lamented how criminal entities have become increasingly indifferent to enlisting and exploiting young individuals, integrating them into their networks while subjecting them to ever-greater levels of ruthlessness. Wiklund further stressed that this “reckless mentality” has deeply infiltrated Sundsvall.
Although this recent indictment towards the gangs has led to several criminals being removed from the streets, it has not eradicated crime entirely. Wiklund emphasized that the persistent economic opportunities in Sundsvall continue to attract criminal networks, with money serving as their primary motivation to maintain their presence and assert control over the area.
