Renaissance officials are open to appointing a left-wing prime minister
Several Renaissance officials said Friday they were open to appointing a left-wing prime minister. Questioned by Agence France-Presse (AFP), MP Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade, president of the Assembly’s European Affairs Committee, considered it necessary “Don’t close any doors”welcoming him favorably “the lines are moving” and which the PS seizes “finally the outstretched hand” by the Ensemble pour la République group.
“We don’t put a red entry line. If a left-wing personality, who has broken with LFI,is capable of assembling and leading a government serving the general interest, then we must not hinder him a priori”he said.
This was stated by MP David Amiel, interviewed on BFM-TV “the personality of the Prime Minister or his origin [devait] don’t be a blocking point ». He stated “regret” the words of Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau (LR), who stated on X that the right cannot “Don’t compromise with the left (…) who made a pact with the “rebels”, refused to denounce the crazy excesses of the menchonists after October 7 and voted for an irresponsible motion of censure”.
Coming from the right, MP Eric Woerth expressed his preference for a “center-right prime minister with the social democrats”without wanting to trace “red line” a priori. “We cannot make it exclusive, otherwise it is the country we will exclude”he said, hoping that a “substantive discussion”.
Always to the right of the Ensemble pour la République group, said MP Charles Rodwell “ready to compromise but not to compromise”not excluding the possibility of a left-wing prime minister. But “we cannot sacrifice our economic and sovereign policy on the altar of an agreement with the socialists”he said.
The president of the Union of Democrats and Independents (UDI), Hervé Marseille, was more cautious about the socialists’ request: “Asking for a left-wing prime minister is not called dialog, it’s called preemption”he told AFP.
