For those without money and need to get rid of that account that keeps them awake at night, the pledge can be a way out, due to the ease offered and low interest rates. While the other loans are around 4% to 6% per month, the pledge of jewelry is between 2.19% to 3.75%. The modality is second only to payroll loans for retirees, which in March was at 1.97% per month.

The loan can be made available to people with difficulties in obtaining credit in the market, not requiring proof of income and also with the possibility of contracting negative people.

According to Caixa Econômica Federal, the goods accepted as collateral are objects made of gold, silver, platinum, pearl, as well as designer watches and pens.

Warranties are individually identified and priced according to the condition of the precious metal, ornaments and weight. A single contract is generated with the parts presented as warranty.

The option is still in high demand. The 58-year-old saleswoman says she has opted for this modality for over 10 years. The last three contracts she signed were last year, one worth R$5,000, another for R$1,700 and another for R$1,800.

“It’s a way to save accounts. When I’m in need, I pawn. It’s easier and the interest is low. Besides, if you don’t have money to pay it off, you renew it”, she pointed out.

However, she says that she is late with the payment and is afraid that the jewels have been auctioned. “I will settle as soon as possible. I’ll see how my situation is, because I’m a few days late. It can’t be late,” she explained.

Another consumer, retired, 62 years old, who also declined to reveal her name, said that pawning the jewelry has become routine. “It is the worst addiction. I usually say that cachaça is good. I don’t even wear my jewelry, so I come and pawn it and get the money,” she said.

bad rating – Still according to her, the facility is the attraction, but the low price paid for gold is the downside. “The only thing is that they pay less, but it’s not worth selling, because after you finish paying, you get the jewel again and you can pawn it again. Selling is just once,” she said.

In a simulation made by the reporting team, with a chain and a gold ring, the amount of R$ 2,087 was offered. Charges per month currently stand at R$80, including interest at 2.19%; IOF (Tax on Financial Operations) of 0.38%; and pledge fee of 0.95%.

In that case, the amount could be paid in 30 days or renewed. With each passing month, the amount can be deducted until reaching the BRL 2,167.50 borrowed.

Another modality is the installment plan, which in 12 installments has interest of 3.75% per month. With the charges, the consumer will need to pay R$ 231.03, with a fixed date stipulated.

However, if you compare it with buying gold in stores, at the bank the jewel can be devalued by up to R$ 1,313. In a location researched on Avenida Calogeras, the price offered for the two objects was R$ 2,720; at a store on Rua 14 de Julho, R$2,805; in another location on Avenida Afonso Pena, the same jewels are bought for R$3,400.

Hiring – The contract value is defined by the customer, according to their needs, limited to the appraised value, and may reach 100% of the appraised value for customers who have a relationship with Caixa.

Customers who do not have a relationship with the bank can contract up to 85% of the asset’s appraised value.

There are two types: traditional pledge, with a term of up to 180 days, and a minimum payment of R$50; and pledge in installments, from 2 to 60 months, with a minimum installment of R$ 100.

The good is evaluated on the spot by a Caixa employee and the money is also released on the spot.

After repaying the loan, the jewelry is returned. In the event of non-payment, Caixa becomes entitled to the goods and they are auctioned to settle the debt.

Data – According to data provided by Caixa Econômica Federal, this year, 222.2 thousand new pledge contracts were executed, corresponding to R$ 579.1 million, and 2.2 million contracts were renewed, corresponding to R$ 5.3 billion.

The regions with the highest volume of pledges are the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. According to Caixa, by strategy, the specific data of Mato Grosso do Sul could not be passed on.

In Campo Grande, three branches of Caixa Econômica Federal work with the pledge. Click here to search.
