/ The Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Mehrdad Bazarbash, confirmed the acceleration of the pace of work to complete the “Shalamcheh-Basra” railway link project as soon as possible.
During his meeting with the Iraqi Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibas, in Tehran, Bazarbash discussed increasing the capacity to transport visitors during the Arbaeen days via various means of transportation, increasing airport services and flights between the two countries, completing the railway line (Kermanshah to Islamabad), and increasing the volume of transit. Between Iran and Iraq, especially by completing the eastern and western corridors.
The topic of completing the Shalamcheh-Basra railway link project and discussing ways to remove some obstacles in this project, including accelerating the process of mine clearance and land acquisition, were at the top of the topics raised and discussed in this meeting.
In this regard, Badrbash stressed the necessity of completing the Shalamcheh-Basra railway link project as soon as possible, explaining that this huge project includes several parts such as the mine clearance process, the bridge construction process, and the construction of the railway track.
The Iranian Minister of Roads noted, “The main part of this project began work on building the Shalamcheh-Basra railway line in September of last year, at the zero point of the border.
