Editor: Thank you for joining us today, Mr. Khalaf. let’s start with Iraq’s recent statement regarding the Zionist entity’s accountability for it’s actions in Palestine and Lebanon. what prompted this renewed call?
Khalaf: Thank you for having me. Iraq has a long-standing commitment to support the Palestinian cause, reaffirming its position during significant events like the International Day of Solidarity with Palestine. The ongoing violations, including what we characterize as genocide and human rights abuses in Gaza, have necessitated this call for accountability.
Editor: You mentioned the importance of holding the Zionist entity accountable. Can you elaborate on the implications of these violations for Iraq and the wider region?
Khalaf: Absolutely. The crimes committed have not only affected Palestine but have also destabilized neighboring countries, including lebanon and Syria. These actions increase tensions across the region and undermine the prospect of peace and stability. For Iraq, our involvement is both a matter of solidarity with our Arab brothers and a strategic necessity to ensure security and stability in the region.
Editor: In your statement, you also highlighted the need for international recognition of the State of Palestine. What would this recognition mean for the governance and future of palestine?
Khalaf: Recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state is crucial for its governance and for the rights of its people. It would empower palestinians in pursuing their right to self-determination, facilitate their depiction at international forums, and bolster efforts to reclaim their lands. Additionally,it is a necessary step for negotiating a viable peace based on mutual respect and understanding.
Editor: Recently, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for certain Israeli officials. How does Iraq view this decision, and what impact might it have internationally?
Khalaf: We commend the ICC’s decision as a significant step towards justice. It underscores the gravity of the crimes against humanity and war crimes allegations. We call upon all countries to implement this warrant, as failure to do so could undermine international law and the rule of justice. It sends a message that the international community stands firm against impunity concerning human rights abuses.
Editor: Looking forward, what practical steps can individuals and nations take to support the Palestinian cause and promote regional peace?
Khalaf: Individuals can educate themselves and engage with advocacy groups that promote Palestinian rights. Nations are encouraged to reassess their foreign policies towards Israel and Palestine, support resolutions that uphold human rights, and foster dialog aimed at peaceful conflict resolution. It is vital for the global community to unite in recognizing and supporting the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people.
Editor: Thank you, Mr. Khalaf, for your insights today. These discussions are crucial as we navigate the complexities of the Middle east and strive for a future rooted in justice and equality.
Khalaf: Thank you for having me. It’s important to keep these conversations alive as we work together for a more just world.
