The disease still occurs in certain parts of the world, but no longer with us thanks to (the only) mandatory vaccination for this disease. In fact, you must pass proof of vaccination to the municipality or city where a child was born. We have a combined vaccine: diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio, Haemophilus influenzae type b (a type of lung disease) and hepatitis B. By the first grade every child must have received all 5 vaccines.
