The Israeli army reported that it killed Hashem Safieddine, successor of the assassinated Hezbollah leader, Hasan Nasrallah, in an airstrike three weeks ago.

In a statement, the Israeli group confirmed that the offensive, which targeted commanders of the Iranian-backed militant group, “Hashem Safieddinehead of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, and Ali Hussein Hazimahead of Hezbollah’s Intelligence Directorate, were killed along with other commanders.”

In addition, they added that in the suburb of Dahiyeh, a stronghold of the enclave in the Lebanese capital, there were more than 25 group members.

Despite official confirmation, the Shiite group did not issue any statement on the death of Safieddine, who would succeed his distant cousin as leader of the Lebanon-based group.

After the offensive, Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi concluded: “we have reached Nasrallah, its replacement and most of Hezbollah’s senior leadership.”
