The Wall Street Journal reported tonight (Thursday) that the United States is examining in advance and confidentially its plans to attack Israel against Iranian targets in Syria. According to the report, the coordination with the Americans was done in order to prevent disruption of US activity against ISIS. It was also claimed that most of the Israeli missions that the Americans are examining are those that are being carried out in eastern Syria, in the area of the American base a-Tanaf.
About a week ago, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based opposition body, released photos allegedly documenting the extensive damage done to the old passenger halls at Damascus airport, due to the attack attributed to Israel. The opposition organization claimed that the damaged halls used to receive senior members of the Revolutionary Guards and Hezbollah, and also to store weapons that come from Iran temporarily.

Moscow was angry over the attack in Damascus, and Israeli Ambassador to Russia Alex Ben-Zvi was summoned for a reprimand. Russia’s ambassador to Israel Anatoly Viktorov met with the commander of UNDOF, the UN force entrusted with maintaining the ceasefire agreements between Israel and Syria. The Russian statement said that the two had discussed at length the existence of the mandate of the UNDP.
