Israel said Saturday that the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah turned around 320 bullets from Lebanon, during Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism which ended at sunset on Saturday. The Israeli response was forceful: they claimed to have attacked 280 “terrorist targets”.
“Over the Yom Kippur weekend, approximately 320 projectiles fired by the terrorist organization Hezbollah passed from Lebanon into Israel,” the military said in a statement.
In a separate statement, they said two projectiles were identified as they crossed northern Gaza, where Israel is fighting Palestinian militants, towards the city of Ashkelon, but fell in a populated area.

Israel in the eye of the storm for the attack on UN bases in Lebanon
For weeks, Israel has intensified its fight against Hezbollah along its northern border, while bombarding strongholds on Beirut’s southern outskirts with airstrikes. At the same time, its forces continue to conduct combat operations in the Gaza Strip.
Last week, the army also added operations in Jabalia after announcing it had effectively laid siege to the area in northern Gaza, causing further suffering to hundreds of thousands of people trapped there, according to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.
“In the Jabalia area, more than 20 terrorists were eliminated during the day amidst tank fire, close-range firefights and airstrikes. Since the start of the current operational activity in the area, the troops have eliminated around 200 terrorists,” the army said.
Hamas is “weakened” after a year of Israeli offensive in Gaza, but far from being “eliminated”
Israel began attacking Gaza shortly after it suffered the worst attacks in its history by Hamas militants on October 7 last year, and launched a ground offensive against Hezbollah in Lebanon on September 30.
The war between Israel and Hezbollah has killed more than 1,200 people in Lebanon since September 23, according to an AFP tally based on Lebanese Health Ministry data, and forced more than a million people to flee their homes.
