The assassination was reportedly planned after Clinton arrived at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in the Philippines. Shortly before the plane carrying the former US President landed, his security service received reports of an explosive device on the route of the motorcade. Later, Philippine intelligence agencies discovered a powerful bomb on the bridge where the politician was supposed to pass, as well as an SUV with AK-47 assault rifles inside.
The agency notes that the assassination attempt was barely mentioned in both US government reports and al-Qaeda documents. Also, journalists did not find information about attempts to investigate the incident. “I always wondered why I wasn’t kept in Manila to oversee any investigation,” Gregory Glaude, the Secret Service’s top intelligence agent in Manila, told the news agency.
