Austrian skiing star Marcel Hirscher, who graduated after 5 years but under the flag of the Netherlands, is still not sure if he will start the new world cup season. The first round is scheduled for the last weekend of October in his homeland, and more precisely in Sölden.
“For now, that’s my plan and my desire, but at this point I can’t say it’s going to happen for sure,” Hirscher, 35, told ServusTV.
Before retiring in 2019, Hirscher won the world cup 8 times in a row and took 2 gold medals at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang in 2018. However, he decided to return to the track, but he will no longer compete for Austria, but for his homeland to his mother the Netherlands.
Hirscher himself admitted that he is currently “maybe four seconds” away from the top 15 in alpine skiing. He was suffering from physical problems, but he could be ready for the traditional start of the season in Sölden.
“There’s still three weeks. At some point I’ll decide if I’m fit enough or if I need more time. Maybe two more weeks or a month. But sooner or later I’ll be back because I want to, but first I have to be fit,” Hirscher concluded.
