We are negative, we want to get out (We are negative, we want to get out). Liberty!. Balearic kidnapping.

The cries of the Spanish students involved in the Covid de Mallorca outbreak resound among the white balconies of the Bellver hotel, very close to the Palma promenade. The building houses 249, of which 62 have already tested positive. Yet they continue to claim that they are not infected and that is why they pretend to leave. But not true. I heard them screaming from balcony to balcony asking about the results of the tests they underwent. Some said they were positive, Juan (real name), 30, tells us. In any case, even boys who tested negative are required to stay in solitary confinement for ten days, since they are close contacts of positive people.

The 30-year-old has been staying in a room on the fourth floor of the hotel from Friday 25 June. The Bellver hotel one of the so-called bridge hotel prepared for those who do not have the possibility to do the quarantine at home. Or because there is not enough space, as in the case of Juan. Or because he is passing through Mallorca, as in the case of the Spanish children – mostly between 17 and 18 years old – who came to the Balearic island to celebrate the end of school. Room and board are free of charge. Pay all the Government (i.e. the administration of the islands, ed), explains Juan. The food is prepared in the Son Espases hospital, they bring it to us from there. we receive four meals a day.

Juan says that for a couple of days his stay in the hotel was almost pleasant, were it not for the symptoms of Covid: I chatted with the other guests, we supported each other. There was a good vibes (a nice atmosphere, ed). But with the arrival of the students, between Saturday 26 and Sunday 27, things precipitated. They scream constantly, they blast the music into the speakers, not caring about who is sick and needs to rest. so for 20 hours a day, the boy continues. They run in the corridors, although it is forbidden to leave their room. They use the landline phone (which would be used to raise the alarm in case you feel bad) to do telephone jokes to other guests and to the reception. And so they clog the line.

And then there are the food wars. Fruit and plates of spaghetti are thrown from the balconies. The girl in the room next to mine kindly asked them to turn the music down. In response they threw an apple at her. Nobody dares to look out onto the balcony any more. They are making the days very complicated. The two hotel policemen can do little. While the police cordon outside the building is tasked with making sure the students don’t escape.
