It’s time to get a new phone

by time news

If you are still using any of the Samsung Galaxy S9 or Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus phones, it might be time to get a new phone as the Korean company has decided to officially end support for these phones.

The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus are the 2018 flagships. We’re now in 2022 and that means the software support period for these phones has already ended.

Samsung ends support for Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus

You could say that Samsung kept its promise, but it’s time to move forward and remove these phones from the company’s software support list, and indeed Samsung has removed both phones from its security updates page.

The rate of receiving updates has been reduced to the quarterly update schedule which is a step the Korean company is taking with all smartphones reaching their final year of software support.

The two phones got the March 2022 security patch update, which is the last update these phones will receive from the company. It is worth noting that both phones run One UI 2.5 based on Android 10, and this means that they are late in catching up with two major versions of the Android system.

Already millions of users have updated their phones and abandoned these phones in the past few months or maybe a year ago from now, but if you still own any of these phones now then you should know that this is the time to go ahead and replace your old phone with a phone from Current generation in order to get the software support and security updates needed to protect your data.

Can barter discounts be taken advantage of?

Samsung is one of the smartphone manufacturers that offers exclusive and huge discounts on trade-in transactions when you exchange your old phone for a new one, but unfortunately this feature is not actually available in all countries.

Samsung offers discounts of up to $270 or $300 in the event that you exchange your old phone for which the company has ended software support for one of the new generation phones, such as the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus came out in 2018 with Android 8, have an Exynos 9810 SoC, have a QHD+ display, support 15W fast charging, and have a rear fingerprint sensor.

Although several years have passed since these phones, they still have a stylish design and great specifications which is a testament to how well Samsung has mastered its smart devices.
