President Gustavo Petro has given a message of calm in the face of the threats issued by the FARC dissidents, led by Néstor Gregorio Vera Fernández, alias Iván Mordisco, regarding the holding of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity ( COP16), which will take place this month in Cali.

The warnings were made known through publications on the social network X, attributed to the armed groupin which the military operation “Perseo” was criticized, launched on October 12 by the Public Force in western Cauca. According to the trills, this offensive would have the objective, according to them, of securing the territory for the construction of a dam and facilitating the expansion of rival groups in the Micay region, in Algeria, Cauca.

One of the most worrying messages was interpreted as a clear threat to the development of COP16, suggesting that national and international delegates refrain from attending the event, calling it a “fiasco.” In the trill, the dissidents stated: “Given the war that responds to our show of will for peace at COP16, we invite the delegates (…) to abstain from attending this event.”
