The 2021 Jazz Plaza Festival, the largest event of its kind in the Caribbean, is suspended in person due to the complexity of the epidemiological situation in Cuba.

The Jazz Plaza was scheduled from January 19 to 24, with live and online performances, but the new records of COVID 19 cases, health restrictions and the panorama of this virus worldwide, prevent its realization.

Instead, the programming will be maintained in the form of online concerts. In this same modality, its usual International Jazz Colloquium “Leonardo Acosta in memoriam” will operate, in which fruitful debates and well-deserved tributes will take place, reported the Organizing Committee of the event.

The live concerts would be held at the National Theater of Cuba (Avellaneda and Covarrubias rooms) and the Plaza House of Culture, but given the measures that limit participation in shows and public spaces, these venues will be closed.

The 36th edition of this well-known festival would feature presentations by Roberto Fonseca, Bobby Carcassés, Rolando Luna, the López-Nussa family, among other greats of the genre.

It would also have the screening of online concerts by guest musicians from the United States, Spain and other countries.

Among the special moments, there were tributes to rumba as a musical-dance manifestation, to the percussionist Pello el Afrokán, to the trumpeter Chico O’Farril, as well as the tribute to the 110th anniversary of the birth of maestro Armando Romeu and the centenary of his death. by the creator of danzón, Miguel Failde.

The Cuban Institute of Music, the National Center of Popular Music and the Organizing Committee of the International Jazz Plaza Festival report that they are already beginning to work on the celebration of Jazz Plaza 2022, to be held from January 18 to 23 of next year.
