Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province is holding a variety of events to celebrate World Water Day. Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 22nd that in commemoration of ‘World Water Day’, it will promote various events such as campaigns, photo exhibitions, river purification activities, and water forum meetings to raise awareness of the importance of water and encourage everyone to participate in water conservation practices.

World Water Day was declared every year on March 22nd at the 47th United Nations General Assembly in 1992 to raise awareness of the importance of water and to promote interest and cooperation among countries around the world to solve water problems such as water shortage and water pollution prevention. It’s one day.

In Korea, since 1995, the government, local governments, and related organizations have held the ‘World Water Day Commemoration Ceremony’ and conducted various campaigns and events, including urban and river cleanup work.

This year’s UN theme is ‘Leveraging Water for Peace’, and the domestic theme is ‘Clean and safe water we can enjoy together’, reflecting the keywords of the UN theme, with everyone’s action and sustainable water management. This means that everyone can use safe water.

Jeonbuk Self-Governing Province promoted Water Day at the Jeonbuk Self-Governing Province Office on the 22nd and conducted a water conservation campaign targeting petitions to raise awareness of the importance of water.

From the 22nd to the 29th, a water environment photo exhibition will be held in the first floor lobby of the building, allowing visitors to feel the importance of clean and safe water resources.

In addition, together with related organizations such as Jeonbuk Regional Environmental Office, Wanju-gun, Korea Water Resources Corporation, and Korea Environment Corporation, we will carry out purification activities to collect household waste left along the Jeonju Stream located in Sangwan-myeon, Wanju.

Meanwhile, on the 27th, we plan to hold the Jeonbuk Water Forum kickoff event where experts from the private sector, government, and academia will gather and communicate about water issues in the Jeonbuk region, and discuss the main agenda and operational direction of the 2024 Jeonbuk Water Forum.

In addition, each city and county in the province, together with related organizations, is promoting environmental cleanup activities in the Mangyeong River, Jinan Stream, and Seomjingang River.

Governor Kim Gwan-young said, “We should use World Water Day as an opportunity for all residents to re-aware of the importance of water resources, which are essential for humanity. As Korea is also one of the countries with water shortages, future generations can also be kept clean by increasing awareness of the value of water.” He emphasized, “Let us all work together to raise awareness by practicing water conservation so that we can enjoy safe water welfare.”
